This number said they were "Litigation Services" and that I had passed a bad check for $510 in 2013. They asked me to verify the last 4 digits of my SSN and I told them I didn't do that with companies I didn't know. He then proceeded to give me all of the information anyway. The representative said that the collector was CashNetUSA but I've never done business with that company. I looked them up and they don't even give payday loans in my state! They had my information from an old bank account. They refused to send anything in writing, saying that I had "Ignored collection letters in the past" so they weren't required to send anything. The representative kept saying that I should feel bad for passing a bad check and that I wouldn't get away with it. He threatened legal action. They said the debt had increased but they were willing to let me settle for $750. I eventually hung up b/c they were very rude and wouldn't answer questions. They called back and left a very rude message with my full SSN in it! Said if I didn't call back in 20 mins they would contact the govt in my county and it would go on my permanent record.
